Competitive play for 8U-18U experienced players as part of the Metropolitan Hockey League. Players should have previous playing experience on a full-year competitive hockey team, or a full year of Learn to Play, Jr Squid or Mite program is highly recommended.

Players that are ready to join a recreation team will be placed in their age-appropriate division based on USA Hockey's age divisions for that season. Divisions are based on birth years and there are generally two birth years within each age division.

Recreation level teams will hold 'evaluation sessions' prior to the season beginning. At these sessions players will be tested on fundamentals and play scrimmages within their division for the purpose of separating players into equally balanced teams. The Jr Kraken are also committed to growing our Girls program and continue to add new opportunities each season.

For those players looking for higher level teams, please visit our Select team and AAA team pages for more information.

Previous playing experience on a full-year competitive hockey team, or a full year of Learn to Play, Jr Squid, or a Mite program.

Players must have a valid USA Hockey Membership for the current hockey season. This will be required for registration.

New players will be required to submit a document for age verification with USA Hockey (i.e. birth certificate, passport).

Volunteer Coaches

Youth hockey couldn’t happen without the parents and community volunteers that help with all facets of the game. We have opportunities for volunteer coaches, team managers, score keepers, clock managers and penalty box managers. It's a great way to help out and build friendships and community that will last a lifetime.

Learn more about the volunteer commitments, benefits and training by completing the questionnaire or visiting our Volunteers page.
