Tie Breaker and Championship Rounds

Tiebreakers – Round Robin Standings

If two teams finish round robin play with an equal number of points, their position in the standings will be determined using the following tiebreakers, in order:

  1. Head-to-head game result (if the teams played each other)

  2. Fewest goals allowed in all games

  3. Greatest goal differential in all games (goals for minus goals against)

  4. Most goals scored in all games

If three or more teams finish round robin play with an equal number of points, their position in the standings will be determined using the following tiebreakers, in order:

  1. If all tied teams played each other, total points earned in head-to-head games among the tied teams

  2. If all tied teams did not play each other:

    • a. If one team has played and defeated each of the other tied teams, that team is placed highest among the tied teams

    • b. If one team has played and lost to each of the other tied teams, that team is placed lowest among the tied teams. The remaining teams then proceed to the next tiebreaker

  3. Fewest goals allowed in all games

  4. Greatest goal differential in all games (goals for minus goals against)

  5. Most goals scored in all games

Playoffs and Championship Games

If a playoff or championship game remains tied at the end of regulation, play will continue as follows:

After a one-minute break, teams will play a five-minute sudden-death overtime period with a running clock at 4-on-4. Teams will remain on the same ends for the duration of overtime.

If the game is still tied after overtime, the winner will be decided by a best-of-three shootout. Coaches will select the players who participate.

If the score remains tied after the initial shootout round, the shootout will continue in sudden-death format. All eligible skaters must take a turn before any player may shoot a second time. Goalies are excluded from the shooting rotation.

Any player serving a penalty at the conclusion of overtime is not eligible to participate in the shootout and must remain in the penalty box.
