- Teams are allotted two 60-minute practices on weeknights each week.

- Thanksgiving
- Winter Break (two weeks)

- All teams will be given practice ice through the conclusion of the MHL playoffs.
Select Teams
Regular Season
- Game counts will vary based on the age division and league but you can expect 20+ league games on top of tournaments and exhibitions.
- Three 60-minute practices on weeknights each week.
- Two games on most weekends (based on league schedule).
Post Season
- Teams are expected to compete in the State Tournament/Festival for their respective age group following the regular season provided there are enough teams to hold an event.
Team Rosters
Coaches will have access to their roster list through two different means; TeamSnap, which is our mobile application provider, and the USA Hockey roster which is essentially the team's identification card and used to attend USA Hockey sanctioned events such as tournaments.
TeamSnap Rosters
- KYHA Staff will create and maintain all rosters within TeamSnap.
- All coaches and managers should be listed on the roster under Staff.
- Staff members on TeamSnap rosters are provided additional access on TeamSnap which allows them to create, edit, and delete events.
- Teams are allowed to request for 'Tournament Rosters' within TeamSnap to help with communication and scheduling for the weekend.
USA Hockey Rosters
- USA Hockey rosters are created and maintained by KYHA staff.
- Once a team roster has been approved, the listed Head Coach will receive a link to the approved roster.
- This link will always direct to the most current version of this roster, regardless of any changes made. Bookmark it and share it with other team staff members.
- This link is public and shareable to any team, association or tournament that requests it.
- All coaches and team managers must be listed on the team roster.
- A coach cannot participate in a game if they are not on the roster (even if they are correctly certified).
- Teams may be disqualified from games/tournaments if they have been found to have an coach on the bench that is not on the roster.
Age Verification
All USA Hockey players upon entry into organized team-play are required to verify their age with USA Hockey at least once during their youth career. KYHA Staff will reach out to those families that need this done prior to the beginning of the season. This is easily completed by sending in a picture copy of the players birth certificate or passport.
International Player Transfer
Per International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) regulations, all players who wish to move from another country, regardless of whether or not they are registered with that member national association, to USA Hockey to register and compete in a competition under the jurisdiction of USA Hockey, are required to apply for a transfer.
Any player, who does not hold USA citizenship, is required to submit a completed transfer form to USA Hockey to be processed and approved before a player can participate with a USA Hockey member program. This includes players who hold permanent resident cards (green cards).
KYHA Staff will notify any families that need to complete this process prior to the season and help with submission on their behalf.
Roster Changes & Substitute Goalies
Adding Team Staff
Staff can be added to the roster at any point in the season provided they hold the necessary credentials for their role. We encourage teams to add as many credentials members to the roster as possible for locker room monitoring purposes.
Substitute Goalies
In the event that a team’s goalie is not available for a game, the following protocol must be used in the event a team must find a Goalie replacement:
- Use a goalie from another C team within the same age division; if not available.
- Use a C or rep team goalie from a lower age division; if not available.
- Use a C team goalie from one age division higher.
There is no forfeit for substitution of goalie with prior approval from the League Commissioner. Substitution must be submitted to the League Commissioner 24 hours prior to the game. Using a substitute goalie without notifying the League Commissioner as specified may result in a forfeit. A game may be rescheduled if a goalie is unavailable.
Tournaments
Teams are encouraged to apply and play in competitive tournaments throughout the season. The below information will help in determining which tournaments are not in violation of any USA Hockey or KYHA policies.
- Jr Kraken Teams may only participate in tournaments/events that are sanctioned by either USA Hockey or Hockey Canada. No exceptions.
- It is the responsibility of Team Staff (coach/manager) to notify KYHA Staff of any potential tournament dates. This is to ensure that any conflicts with the regular season schedule can be avoided or dealt with quickly.
- If you are in need of additional players, you may invite other Jr Kraken players from the same division to join your team for the tournament. This will require the approval of the Head Coach of the team the players are originally coming from.
- If you using players from a team not on your MHL roster, you must request a tournament-specific roster from KYHA Staff.
- Please allow for at least one week for approval and include all players and staff when requesting a tournament roster.
USAH Sanctioned Tournaments in Washington
Hockey Canada Tournaments (Lower BC)
How do I know if a tournament is sanctioned?
A sanctioned tournament will have a Tournament Sanction Number given to them by USA Hockey or Hockey Canada that tournaments are required to provide to teams. This approval means the tournament organizers have met specific requirements, including following USA Hockey/Hockey Canada rules and regulations, and that all participating teams and players are properly registered with USA Hockey or Hockey Canada.
Unsanctioned play is strictly forbidden for all Jr Kraken teams.
Playing In Canada & Travel Permits
- Teams must have a USA Hockey Travel Permit in order to play games in Canada.
- To obtain an approved travel permit fill in the destination, team, and sanction number information on the form and submit to KYHA Staff to fill in the approval section and return to you.
- Teams will submit this form along with their roster link to complete tournament registration.
- Please allow at least one week for travel permit approval.
Post-Season Tournaments
- Teams are welcome to sign up for tournaments at the conclusion of the league regular season.
- Reach out to KYHA Staff with roster creation requests.
- Teams will be required to purchase any practice ice from the facility once the regular season is over.
