Registration
Registration dates for upcoming sessions can be found here.
New skaters should register for Cuttlefish #1 (ages 3-6), Bigfin #1 (ages 7-17), or Adult Deep Sea #1 (ages 18+). Skaters currently in Cuttlefish #1 or Bigfin #1 should register for Cuttlefish #2 or Bigfin #2 unless otherwise stated by the coach. All other returning skaters should register for the level listed on their report card in the back of their name tag lanyard.
When you see "not eligible" or "priority only" it means your account doesn't meet the requirements to register for the class. For returning skaters registering for Cuttlefish #2+, Bigfin #2+, and Adult Deep Sea #2+, this happens when the person you are trying to register has not participated in our classes before or has taken a long break from our program. If this is not the case, please check that you are selecting the correct participant profile. Additional, please check that you do not have more than one Daysmart accounts. Duplicate profiles can mean that you are trying to sign up with an account that has not been registered with our program before.
If you are unable to resolve this problem, please contact ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com
There are a few reasons you may not be seeing the class you are looking for including:
- Age restrictions: If you're needing to register for a class outside of the age range listed for the class, you won't see the class option available.
- Wrong profile selected: If you have multiple profiles connected to an account, such as parents with children, please ensure that you've selected the correct participant so the age appropriate classes can be listed.
- Filters have been adjusted: When registering, please do not select or change any of the filters other than "Who are you registering". Leave the filters as is. See the below photo.
If you are unable to resolve this problem, please contact ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com
Skaters in Cuttlefish should continue through Cuttlefish #4 even after turning 7. If you feel transitioning to Bigfin would be a better fit for your skater based on age, we can assist with transitioning them to the appropriate level class. Please contact ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com if you have issues with registration based on age restrictions.
Skaters under 18 can be approved on a case-by-case basis. Please contact ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com to inquire further and get support with registration.
Once you've registered your skater for classes, their class schedule will be listed on your Daysmart account. Additionally, the LTS session schedule for the year can be found here. If there are any break weeks during a LTS session, a reminder will be emailed out that there is no class.
Cancelations prior to a series beginning, are 100% refundable up to 14-days in advance of the first day in the session, and 50% refundable up to seven days in advance of the first day in the session. Cancelation with a full or partial refund during the session due to injury will be considered with a doctor's note. All other cancellation requests will be reviewed case-by-case and may receive a partial or full account credit instead of a refund.
LTS Structure
Our classes may have up to ten skaters but are typically split into smaller groups of five-eight skaters.
Supervisors conduct skater evaluations throughout the eight week session. Every class will be evaluated at least once during either week six or week seven, but may also be evaluated other weeks during the session as needed. If your skater is ready to move up, they will receive a new level card in their lanyard from the supervisor. If your skater has not been moved up yet and you think this is a mistake, please contact ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com to request an evaluation.
Skaters that have not advanced to the next level by week eight will receive a report card in their lanyard on the last day of class detailing some skills that need improvement to move up levels.
KSA does not offer makeups classes, credits, refunds, or carryovers for no-shows or missed classes within a session. Our classes are typically at capacity and do not have space for skaters making up a missed class. We provide eight free public skate passes yearly with KSA Learn to Skate membership to accommodate for missed classes.
Skaters need to complete either Cuttflefish #4 or Bigfin #2 and must be wearing hockey skates to advanced to the Learn to Skate hockey classes. Skaters will receive a Power Skating #1 card from a supervisor in their lanyard once they are ready. After completing the LTS Power Skating #1-#2 classes, they will be invited to register for Learn to Play. Adults wanting to join adult LTP do not need to take LTS classes first. To do the LTS hockey Power Skating classes, adults need to compete Adult Deep Sea #2 and must be wearing hockey skates. Skaters will receive a Power Skating #1 card from a supervisor in their lanyard once they are ready.
Skaters in our youth LTS program can advance to our figure skating program Emerald Edge once they reach Bigfin #4. Adults can join our Adult Emerald Edge program at Adult Deep Sea #5. To participate in Emerald Edge, all skaters need to be wearing figure skates.
Equipment
Recommended class attire year around:
- Long sleeve shirt
- Jacket
- Gloves
- Long athletic pants
- Helmet (required for select levels)
- Skating socks (thin socks are better than thick socks for skating)
*Hard plastic knee pads and elbow pads are not recommended as they can hinder movement in lower levels
Yes, helmets are required for all skaters in our LTS program and select levels in our Emerald Edge program. Skaters in levels Cuttlefish #1-#4, Bigfin #1-#6, and Adult Deep Sea #1-#6 are required to wear helmets in LTS and Emerald Edge classes. We will not let you on the ice without one. It is still highly recommended for skaters in Emerald Edge levels Aspire #1+ and Adult Freeskate #1+ to wear a helmet while skating, but it is not required.
Yes, rental skates are included in the registration fee. You can pick up the skates before each class at the front desk. You can choose between hockey skates or figure skates.
You can purchase skates if you'd like, but it is not required. As a new skater, it is recommended to try a few classes in rental skates before deciding to buy skates. If you have questions about purchasing skates, you can speak with one of the supervisors or email ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com.
If you have any questions or concerns that haven't been answered here, please email ksalearntoskate@seattlekraken.com
