About the Program
The Emerald Edge Competition Team is a program designed to introduce skaters to figure skating competitions and testing, and to develop and prepare them in a motivating team setting. It is open to all Emerald Edge skaters who are not currently taking private lessons from a head coach. The Competition Team is freestyle/singles focussed (i.e. no instruction in dance, pairs, or other disciplines outside of singles will be provided).
Each skater will:
- Work with KSA Competition Team Coaches weekly in a group training environment.
- Receive their own individual free skate program.
- Learn how to practice on a freestyle session safely.
- Progress through the beginning USFS testing levels in skating skills and singles.
Eligibility & Requirements
Ages: 5 - 16 years
Levels: Bigfin 4 - Aspire 4
Consistent Attendance: To maintain your spot on the EE Competition Team, skaters must register for the competition team and attend weekly practices, as well as at least one additional weekly Emerald Edge group class. Skaters must keep up attendance in EE (including off-ice portions of class, if offered). Maintaining consistent on- and off-ice training is important.
Equipment: Skaters must have their own pair of figure skates. Helmets are optional; Crasche helmets are recommended.
Competition Participation: Skaters must compete in at least one event each season (see options below).
Private Lessons
Skaters interested in private lessons outside the group class setting, please contact KSA Figure Skating. We can match you with one of our Emerald Edge Competition Team coaches. FAQs
How much are registration fees for a competition? Fees range between $50 - $150, depending on the event. Parents must individually register their skater for the competition.
Do I have to attend all the competitions? No, you do not have to attend all. The listed competitions above are the ones we intend to take our EE team to. One event during the winter season. Three options in the spring and one in the summer. Skaters may attend more but the team will focus on the ones we've selected. Competition dates are still to be determined.
Will skaters have coaches at the competition? Yes, members of our KSA EE Coaching Team will attend competitions with skaters. Additional coaching fees will apply and will be an additional fee that isn't built into the program fee. Estimate per skater could $50 to $100 per skater.
What is the focus of the competition team? Our focus is to introduce and prepare new skaters for figure skating competitions. Learn how to train and learn how to compete, in a fun group team format.
Costumes: Skaters will be responsible for their own costumes. Coaches will give guidance to the parents and skaters as we are working on a club costume sale and rental options.
